Palm Sunday

Psalm text (Ps 21)

My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?

All who see me deride me.
They curl their lips, they toss their heads.
'He trusted in the Lord, let him save him;
let him release him if this is his friend.'

Many dogs have surrounded me;
a band of the wicked beset me.
They tear holes in my hands and my feet.
I can count every one of my bones.

They divide my clothing among them.
They cast logs for my robe.
O Lord, do not leave me alone,
my strength, make haste to help me!

I will tell of your name to my brethren
and praise you where they are assembled.
'You who fear the Lord, give him praise;
all songs of Jacob, give him glory.
Revere him, Israel's sons.'

Gospel Verse

Christ was humbler yet, even to accepting death, death on a cross. But God raised him high and gave him the name which is above all names.

Psalm text (Ps 22:8-9, 17-18, 19-20, 23-24)

My God, my God, why have You abandoned me?

All who see Me scoff at Me.
They mock Me with parted lips, they wag their heads.
He relied on the Lord, let the Lord deliver Him,
let Him rescue Him if He loves Him.

Indeed, many dogs surround Me,
a pack of evildoers closes in upon Me.
They have pierced My hands and My feet.
I can count all My bones.

They divide my garments among them,
and for my vesture they cast lots.
But You, O Lord, be not far from me.
O my help, hasten to aid me.

I will proclaim Your name to my brethren.
In the midst of the assembly I will praise You.
You who fear the Lord praise Him,
all you descendants of Jacob,
give glory to Him, revere Him,
all you descendants of Israel.

Gospel Verse (Phil 2:8-9)

Christ became obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Because of this, God greatly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the name that is above every name.
